SHS acquires Spiegelberg.

SHS Gesellschaft für Beteiligungsmanagement mbH (SHS), a growth investor in Tuebingen, Germany, has acquired the corporate shares in Spiegelberg (GmbH & Co.) KG (Spiegelberg). SHS and Spiegelberg announced this today.

SHS Gesellschaft für Beteiligungsmanagement, founded in Tübingen in 1993, offers finance and advice for innovative companies in new industries, especially in the healthcare and life sciences sectors. With their current investment funds, SHS holds around 120 million euro of investment capital. The chief partners are the former McKinsey consultants Bernhard Schirmers and Reinhilde Spatscheck, and Hubertus Leonhardt, former Corporate Finance Project Leader at Arthur Andersen. www.shsvc.net

Final results of SILVER study show a significantly lower infection rate in the Silverline group.

Ms. Nicole Keong presented the final results of the Silver Impregnated Line Versus EVD Randomised Trial at the SBNS spring meeting in Cambridge: Of a total of 278 patients, the infection rate was 12.3% in the Silverline group, in the control group it was 21.4% (p= 0.041 in a two tailed test). This is a statistically significant reduction of the infection rate.

Now class I evidence is available to show the reduction of infection by Silverline catheters.

Spiegelberg receives Award for Innovative Medical Technology from the German Federal Ministry of Education and Reserach.

A consortium consisting of Charité Berlin and Spiegelberg (GmbH & Co.) KG under the leadership of Prof. Klaus Affeld was given the prestigious award for the development of a new catheter that prevents access of bacteria by means of a balloon which fills up the inside of the catheter. The award was given to Klaus Affeld in a ceremony in Berlin.

Significant reduction of infections with Silverline® Ventricular EVD-Catheters

In a study covering 231 patients Jens Fichtner and his co-authors of a full article in The Journal of Neurosurgery demonstrated a significant reduction of infections in the study group as compared to a sham group.

Successful treatment of infected shunt patients with Silverline catheters published.

Dr. Yusuf Izci and his co-authors from the Gulhane Military Medical Academy in Ankara, Turkey treated seven patients suffering from infected shunt systems. Silverline catehters were used in all patients. Nove of them developed a re-infection. Patients' ages were between six months and 53 years. Mean follow up period was 14 months. This is a major success for both the authors and the product.

Silverline Ventricular Shunt-Catheter launched.

The CE-mark was given to the Silverline Ventricular Shunt-Catheter as a permanent implant. It is compatible with all shunt valves designed for 1.3 mm inner diameter catheters.

Statistically significant reduction of infection rate with Silverline EVD catheters

In a study in the University of Innsbruck, Austria, a significantly lower infection rate was observed in patients with acute occlusive hydrocephalus who had received a Silverline catheter.

ICP Lab software launched.

ICP Lab, a software tool for recording, browsing, storing, and printing of ICP data was launched today.

ICP Lab was written by Dr. Peter Smielewski in the University of Cambridge. Tha data format is ICM+. I.e. data recorded with ICP Lab can be further analyzed using the University of Cambridge´s ICM+ software.
