Continuous intra-abdominal pressure measurement (IAP) offers many opportunities in therapy

New study from the University Hospital Hannover proves reliable measured values also in pediatrics

A study on the Spiegelberg IAP catheter led by Dr. Torsten Kaussen from the Hannover Medical School (MHH). Dr. Kaussen is senior physician in the pediatric intensive care unit and group leader of the research group "Intra-abdominal hypertension and abdominal compartment syndrome in children and adolescents". The study compared the use of the conventional vesical IAP measurement, i.e. via the urinary bladder, with the intragastric Spiegelberg probe (placed in the stomach). The result clearly shows that both measurement methods deliver comparable results, but continuous measurement offers the great advantage that impending complications can be recognized earlier.
